For My Mommy
You are the one who gave me life And showed me unconditional love with each embrace When I was small, I can remember you always Dressing me up so pretty in lace. I can recall always wanting to fall asleep In your loving arms each and every night For my mommy’s love was like no other Nestled close to you as I drifted towards dreamland, “felt so right”. When I was a toddler, you nicknamed me “Tutu”. While in diapers, a ballerina I would portray The name has made me feel special “through your eyes” It did back then – and still does to this day. You would often dress me up, and then fix my hair Using a headband, as my cowlick would show And reassured me of just how cute I was I’d grin with my one-dimpled smile; knowing so. When I first put my shoes on “all by myself” I was proud that very first night! You said, “Honey, you have them on the wrong feet!” So I switched them around TWICE, thinking then I’d have it right! On Halloween Day, in Kindergarten class You dressed me as the cutest “pumpkin” With an orange-stuffed body, and a green “stem” to match I thought to myself, “Wow! I am really somethin’!” When I was five, you gave birth to twins. I changed their diapers and helped you so much. You had complete trust in me, seeing how very careful I was And told me then, “You truly have a mommy’s touch” You watched me through the window as I learned to ride my bike Up and down the curbside I would go It only took me one entire day For I was determined, and wanted to show you so. You and dad soon went your separate ways I then lived with him and his new wife. I visited you as often as I possibly could For you have always been extremely important in my life. Through the years we became the best of friends That’s a known fact; not a rumor You always have a way of cracking me up I’m so glad that I have your great sense of humor! I love you dearly, realizing more each day As when we’re young, we seem to take for granted We are simply “seeds” placed in each other’s lives That God has so kindly planted.
